THE DREAM

I don’t remember the entire dream, and I’m not sure where I was at first. Things were not clear, but I had a strange feeling that I was waiting for something I had already missed. I’ll try to convey the dream as clearly as I can.

I was sitting inside a school I did not recognize. The corridors were empty, but I could hear lessons taking place behind locked classroom doors. Each teacher sounded like me, although they were all teaching different versions of the same event.

I had a sealed envelope in my pocket. It was addressed to me in handwriting I recognized, but I could not remember who it belonged to. Whenever I tried to open it, an elderly student sitting beside me quietly shook their head.

After a while, I noticed that everyone else in the school was asleep at their desks. For some reason, I felt responsible for them, although I did not know any of their names.

I stood and walked toward the main doors. Just before reaching them, I realized the envelope was no longer in my pocket.

I woke with the feeling that I had made an important decision, but I could not remember what it was.
