THE DREAM

I don't remember all of the dream. In fact, when I woke up, I didn't remember it at all. Some time later, it suddenly came back to me.

The part of the dream I remember had three sections, although I'm not sure whether they were truly connected. I'm not even sure this is the correct order in which things happened.

In the first part, I was carrying some files from work. At some point, I realized that I had lost them. I don't remember exactly how it happened, but I felt responsible, as though I had handled the situation badly and should have been more careful.

In the second part of the dream, I was in someone's house. I don't know where it was or whose house it was. Because of something I did, a fire started in the kitchen. It was a serious situation involving gas from the kitchen pipes and stove, as well as melted tubes and plastic.

I realized that the situation was serious, yet I still tried to resolve it on my own. The fire was destroying the house, and I was unable to control it.

Then someone arrived—someone connected to the house, perhaps an authority figure of some kind. It may have been my father, although he didn't look like my father. He was very upset because of the fire and because I had tried to deal with it by myself. The damage to the house was extensive. I think he managed to put out the fire, but I'm not sure.

In the third part of the dream, the same person gave me, perhaps as some kind of punishment for what had happened, a wooden trap designed to catch rats, and I had to fix it.

I sat there holding it in my hands, but some parts were missing, and I was unable to repair it. It felt like one of those puzzle games where you twist and turn something while trying to find the solution. But in this case, some of the necessary parts were missing, so there was no way for me to fix the device. It made me feel deeply frustrated.
