THE DREAM

I dreamed that I parked my car somewhere and had to leave it there overnight. The following day, I returned to the car with my husband and discovered that a man was sleeping in the front seat. I realized that the car had not been locked. The man got out of the car and disappeared.

I then looked beneath the interior of the car and noticed that a family of enormous slugs was living there: two parents and two small children. One of them crawled out of the car. I grabbed it and threw it onto the road. Then I noticed that it had hit its head when it landed and had died. I felt guilt and shame, so I kicked it farther toward the other side of the road.

I tried to remove the rest of the slug family, but they crawled back into the car and hid themselves.

My husband and I then looked more closely beneath the interior of the car. At a deeper level, underneath the place where the slugs were living, we realized that some people were also living there. They brought up a pile of towels, but we could not see the people themselves.

We then tried to understand why the car could not be locked using the remote control. My husband said it was probably because I had not closed the doors properly. We checked that all the doors were closed, but we still could not lock the car.

We also discovered water on the floor of the car, which had probably drained inside from the rain that had poured during the night. We assumed that one of the doors had not been closed properly.

Finally, we realized that this was the situation: a slug family and some unseen people were living inside the lower parts of our car, the doors could not be locked, and there was nothing we could do about it.

I wondered how people could live in such a small space and still have a full life there. In the end, my husband and I simply got into the car and drove home.
